Stories make you feel a little less lonelier & a little more happier ... And this extraordinarily beautiful feature of stories can be perfectly put to professional use, to fetch remarkable results & profits .
Stories, are the reason people still find the idea of being alive interesting . Every single individual on the planet is equipped with the most powerful tool in the universe, the MIND !
Ones own mind allows oneself have this amazingly ultimate power of imagination, & they're the stories, which enrich & enhance this power !
We know that people are substantially motivated by a company's transcendent purpose . A purpose, generated out of something that happened or something that intrigued the founders ( & thus, there has to be a story of what had happened or what intrigued them ). This purpose, or rather the story behind the purpose makes your target customer believe in what you believe .
People, I should say, are more interested in how a company improves lives than their transactional objective of how they sell stuff . That is probably why, when we're looking at brands and companies, we opt to choose the one that has a story of a journey that the company has had . Storytelling has this unique ability to bring to life that transcendent purpose of the company, stating -why & for what does the company exist !
Having a story prevailing, not only yields an increase in the popularity of the the company, but also unifies the company's purpose, goals, future and the vision .
I believe that stories are critical to the success of a community, an individual, a company or the society in whole, because stories themselves demand generosity from the storyteller ( here in our case, from the firm or the company ). With stories, we are able to connect to the people on a much deeper level than ever before . So, the more the story of a bunch of passionate geeks who came together to fulfill a purpose of peoples interest is shared, the more we're able to actually create change and inspire change makers ( here, our target customers ). McKee, a famous creative writing instructor believes that the best ways to get the ideas out into the world is through storytelling . His students have won 18 academy awards and he says that we can engage the visitors of our websites with our motive on a whole new level . It's almost like we're still acting like in our primal and caveman like nature's using bullet points and power points and pamphlets to promote ourselves when we actually now have 'only a click away' websites where we can both formally & informally connect with the seekers . We have virtual reality that we can put up through videos that will allow us to transport our audience to a whole new realm, to a parallel universe where they can actually experience and live in the situations & relive the story which will make them believe in what we believe . They can read from our official websites and watch through our videos and be convinced that they are actually walking on the same footsteps as the initiators .
Sanford research group found that in average one minute, 9 out of 10 students used 2.5 statistics . Where on the other hand, only 1 in 10 students told a story . But when they looked at the retention rates, they found it really interesting to know that 65% of people remembered the speeches with stories, yet only 5% remembered those with just statistics . Terry Partchett's said that people think that the stories are shaped by people, but actually it's the other way around . If you want to understand the culture, listen to the stories . But if you want to change the culture, change the stories . & in changing the old culture by changing the stories & giving people something really new to talk about, lie the new opportunities .
It's really vital today that we dissect and observe our own stories and then think about how we can communicate them digitally so that they reach more people across the world, so that the people in a different geography, in a different region experience what we're experiencing, so that they connect with our thought processes, our perspectives and our angles effectively . People love brands and companies that have stories, that create stories, that tell stories and live their stories authentically and genuinely . And that's why leaders need to learn how to be uniquely human to digital storytelling . The ones who are being able to communicate a story through websites, videos and films interactively, are the ones who are succeeding, the numbers say .
The goal shouldn't be to make people buy what you have, the goal in fact should be making people believe what you believe, and that is possible through stories . The reason sports are more popular than sciences, is that they have more stories of winning & losing rather than more numbers & statistics like in the sciences . An American poet once said, that the universe is made up of stories, not atoms .
